Description of projects available to graduate students:
The student will use a multidisciplinary approach that includes virology, biochemistry and structural biology to elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which novel mutations identified in HIV-1 from infected patients treated with anti-retroviral drugs confer resistance.

Techniques graduate student will learn:
cell culture, antiviral assays, protein expression, biochemistry, molecular modeling, site-directed mutagenesis
