- Tumor-localization by anti-tumor effector cells: The trafficking of non-specific (e.g., NK cells and polyclonally activated T cells) as well as specific T-cells is investigated. Of special interest are the mechanisms the effector cells use to discriminate between malignant and normal tissues. Ways to improve effector cell localization into malignant tissues are explored.
- Anti-tumor effect of specific and non-specific effector cells: The ability of non-specific (especially NK cells) and specific effector cells to localize into and attack the tumors is investigated. Ways to enhance the efficacy of the tumor-infiltrating effector cells are explored. The overall goal is to develop efficient, but non-toxic protocols for cancer immunotherapy.
