Approximately a third of the human population is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), the predominant causative agent of tuberculosis. Despite induction of a strong immune response in a majority of infected people, the bacteria is contained but not eliminated, resulting in a latent infection. My research focuses on the function of CD8+ T cells in control of Mtb infection, during both acute and chronic phases of disease.
