The Cascio’s Lab studies how stromal, tumor and immune cells communicate within the tumor microenvironment. We focus on understanding how factors secreted by stromal and tumor cells shape the immunosuppressive activities of tumor-associated macrophages and neutrophils, contributing to resistance to immunotherapy. Using mouse models of gynecological cancers and patient-derived samples, our long-term goal is to uncover novel therapeutical strategies that enhance anti-tumor immunity.
