Dr. Dong works to understand the mechanism of gestational diabetes - a metabolic disease is manifested by high blood sugar levels during pregnancy. About 1 out of 10 pregnant women develops gestational diabetes with a long-lasting adverse impact on the health of both mothers and infants. Dr. Dong’s project is to investigate insulin and prolactin regulation of pancreatic beta-cell mass and function during pregnancy to gain mechanistic insights into beta-cell failure in gestational diabetes. |
